I suggest that you try the latest version (9.5) as a clean install and see how it goes. Win 8.1, 16Gb ram, i7 cpu over-clocked from 3.6 to 4.5Ghz (asking for trouble :-)) and a AMD R9 200 series GPU with 4Gb, Wacom Intuos 4 tablet and have not seen any issues. Mostly using as a Lightroom plug-in - but don't know if that matters. I've got a quad core overclocked i7 system, with plenty of RAM.
